First IUI day!! Very exciting. Trying not to get too excited as I know its unusual to work first time. But miracles do happen. I had to drink water as IUI is to be performed on a comfortably full bladder. OMG, the consultant was running late so, I needed to pee so much, it didn’t help that both James and I had to get into very fetching gowns and some shoes like crocs, very trendy! I think I was trying not to laugh at the fact James seemed to enjoy the fact he looked like a surgeon in his scrubs!! Our consultant is crazy, a nice man, makes us laugh. (not good when you need the loo.) The procedure went fine, but I found it quite sore, (not like the Hystogram dye test they did on me to check my tubes were clear, that was agony, I was told it would be like a bad period pain, I have NEVER experienced a period pain like that, it was awful!) probably as I’d drunk too much water. I’ve taken today off, so I’ll just chill and hope for the best.

Early morning travelling to Glasgow is a nightmare, our appointment was for 8.30am so we didn’t have to take too much time off work. We were taken right away, so that was good. Fertility drugs seem to do the trick, Nurse was pleased at what she saw. All follicles were of the correct size so, I’ve been given an HCG injection to do at home. Specific timing of jab so that IUI can be performed at the correct time. I don’t think I’m having many side effects from the drugs. All is good.

Had our first appointment today, its quite exciting. Nurses have to go over the IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) protocol. This is the fertility treatment we’re following. Its less invasive that IVF and much cheaper. As I’m only 28, this treatment should have a higher success rate than if it were used by a woman of 40. It’s day 2 of my period. First I have a transvaginal ultrasound, this allows the nurse view your ovaries and the lining of my uterus. Everything is clear, so I am given two sets of drugs. Clomid and Gonal F (self injections), and a set of instructions and timings. Hmm, I think James will get that job. At least I won’t know when it’s going to hurt. Next appointment is next week to check follicle growth.

TWW (two week wait) is the worst, other websites have said this but you don’t realise until your in the situation. Every niggle and twinge your body makes, gets you wondering. Loads of symptoms of pregnancy, the most tender boobs I’ve ever had, slight back ache. But all these symptoms can also be a sign of pending menstruation or side effects of some fertility drugs. The wait is driving me nuts!
